The 27th International Colloquium on the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems held

Peking University, Sep. 4, 2019: From July 28 to August 2, 2019, the 27th International Colloquium on the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems (ICDERS 2019) was held at Peking University. This is the first time for the colloquium to be held in mainland China. ICDERS was initiated in 1967 by pioneers in the field of detonation and is hosted by Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems (IDERS) every two years. Wang Jianping was elected as the Board of Directors in 2011 and became the first director from mainland China.

On the morning of July 29th, the opening ceremony of the colloquium was held in the Sunshine Hall of Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center. Hao Ping, president of Peking University, welcomed 454 participants from 31 countries and regions around the world, extended his gratitude to IDERS and the domestic co-sponsors of the colloquium.

Professor N. Chaumeix from French Academy of Sciences, on behalf of the IDERS Council, reviewed the development and current status of ICDERS, introduced the work of the IDERS committees, welcomed the participants from 244 universities and 91 research institutes around the world, and thanked Peking University for hosting this colloquium.


Before the opening ceremony, Hao Ping met with Chinese and foreign guests attending the conference. During the 5-day schedule, 257 participants from countries and regions around the world and 197 participants from mainland China gathered at Peking University to exchange the latest research results in the field of detonation and explore cutting-edge scientific issues.

In accordance with the usual practice, the A. K. Oppenheim Award winner is announced on the Thursday evening meeting. This year, Professor A. Matsuo, president of the Japan Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences, received this honor.

After the colloquium, Peking University has received letters from the three presidents of IDERS, directors, and many other participants of the colloquium. These letters extended high praises to the organization of this year’s colloquium and congratulated Peking University on successfully holding such a high-level international academic colloquium.
