The 7th Cross-Straits and Hong Kong Symposium on Life Sciences concludes

Peking University, September 15, 2019: On the afternoon of September 4, the 7th Cross-Straits and Hong Kong Symposium on Life Sciences concluded at Peking University. This activity was hosted by the graduate student union of School of Life Sciences of Peking University and co-organized by National Tsing Hua University, School of Biomedical Sciences of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Kunming Institute of Zoology of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Around 200 teachers and students from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, and Hong Kong attended the symposium.

The symposium kicked off in Deng Youcai Lecture Hall on the morning of September 3. School leaders, professors, and about 50 students from the four organizing institutes attended the opening ceremony.

This year’s symposium included expert reports, graduate student reports, and a poster contest. In the session of expert reports, professor Zheng Yongtang from Kunming Institute of Zoology, CAS, reported on the restriction of TRIMCyp on HIV-1and non-human primate models. Professor Yang Liwei from National Tsing Hua University shared his group’s progress in program-controlled screening of ribosomal framework. Professor Chan Wood Yee from the Chinese University of Hong Kong introduced the application of hair follicle-derived neural crest stem cells in cell therapy of Hirschsprung disease.


In the session of graduate student reports, students from different institutes made 15-minute oral reports on their research progress. Dai Xihuimin, Lv Mengze, and Wang Qiming from Peking University won the Best Report Award.


In the poster contest, the entries involved biochemistry, cell biology, neurobiology, ecology, bioinformatics, and many other fields. Xu Ruidan, Zhang Xinyi, and Zhang Shu from Peking University won the Best Poster Award.

The symposium promoted academic discussion and enhanced cooperation on scientific research. At the end of the event, teachers and students from the four institutes exchanged souvenirs and posed for photographs to mark their cooperation and friendship.
