PKU Professor Chen Changdu receives the ESC Special Award of Merit

Peking University, Dec. 9, 2019: On November 28, the 18th Chinese Ecological Conference was held in Kunming, Yunnan province. The conference was sponsored by the Ecological Society of China (ESC) and co-organized by Yunnan University. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of its establishment, ESC initiated the Special Award of Merit to honor its members who had made significant contributions to the progress of ecology. PKU Professor Chen Changdu from the College of Urban and Environmental Sciences won the award.

Professor Chen is a well-known macro-ecologist and one of the pioneers of the landscape ecology in China. He is also one of the first ecologists who work on the protection of natural heritage. His studies on China’s natural heritage from the ecological perspective have made tremendous contributions.

Ecological Society of China, founded in Kunming in December 1979, is a non-profit and multidisciplinary academic organization. It is affiliated with Chinese Association for Science and Technology and has joined the International Society of Ecology in 1984. The society has more than 10,000 members, and it is a leading organization that facilitates ecological studies in China.
