Jan 14, 2020
Peking University, January 10, 2020: Chinese President Xi Jinping awarded the 2019 State Science and Technology Prizes to distinguished scientists and engineers at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, January 10, 2020. Three projects launched by Peking University – “Mechanism of New Particle Formation and Secondary Aerosol Growth under Complex Air Pollution in China”, “Magnetic Nanomaterials Construction and Multifunctional Regulation”, and “Establishment and Application of Key Technique of Emulsification in New Pharmaceutical Preparations” – were honored with the State Natural Science Award and the State Science and Technology Progress Award.

Hu Min and her team receive the award

The “Mechanism of New Particle Formation and Secondary Aerosol Growth under Complex Air Pollution in China” Project, which received the State Natural Science Second Class Award, is led by Hu Min, Wu Zhijun, He Lingyan, Guo Song, and Huang Xiaofeng and supported by Peking University. It reveals the mechanism of atmospheric nucleation at polluted regions and enriches the theory of environmental chemistry, thus shedding fresh light upon the future prevention of and control over PM2.5.

Hou Yanglong and his team receive the award

The “Magnetic Nanoscale Materials Construction and Multifunctional Regulation” Project led by Hou Yanglong, Gao Song, Yu Liang, Ma Ding, and Yang Ce, also received the State Natural Science Second Class Award. It promotes significant progress in the fields of biomedicine and nanomaterials, which pioneer the theory of magnetic materials.

Zhang Qiang and his team receive the award

The “Establishment and Application of Key Technique of Emulsification in New Pharmaceutical Preparations” Project was accomplished jointly by Zhang Qiang, Zhang Xuexia, Zhao Yanping, Xia Guimin, Dai Wenbing, Zhou Liying, Liu Shulin, Wang Huijuan, Wu Cuishuan, and Wang Xueqing. It was honored with the State Science and Technology Progress Second Class Award for its outstanding enhancement of oral absorption of medicine. The team established an emulsification technique system to manufacture the new formulations of various medicines, thus improving the competitiveness of domestic pharmaceutical companies.
