Peking University, April 16, 2024: A German Christian Democratic Union delegation, led by former minister Jens Spahn, arrived at the Foreign Language School of Peking University, one of the country's most prestigious educational institutions. The delegation held talks with academics from the School of German Studies, focusing on China-Germany relations and cultural exchanges.

JENS SPAHN, Vice Parliamentary Leader, Christian Democratic Union of Germany "It is such an honor to visit Peking University. This is our first time here. The visit is important for us – to deepen mutual understanding and discuss issues related to the current political, economic and cultural exchanges between China and Germany."

Addressing students, Spahn talked about German literature and opera, how the two countries built ties in economy and trade and ways to drive youth development through more people-to-people exchanges.

WANG LIHENG, Student, School of Foreign Languages, Peking University "Sometimes this face-to-face communications can give us more real impressions. We can feel from their talks of what attitude he's having towards China, what attitudes we're giving back. I think today's event is a very effective conversation between the two sides, especially after the pandemic, when we must have more conversations and interactions with one another."

NIKLAS HEINS, Student, School of International Studies, Peking University "For us Germans, we care a lot about the economic, and the belt and road initiative. And I think there's a lot of talk about derisking, decoupling right now. And so I think for us, particularly economy, as China and Germany were very similar in that regard, not for the two countries, but to the world."

BI RAN, Beijing "The delegation had a very comprehensive and candid interaction with students and academics from Peking University, discussing topics ranging from economic trends, cultural exchanges, German history to youth affairs and visa issues. The delegation will be staying in Beijing for three days. Bi Ran, CGTN, Beijing."
