Prof. Zhang Xiaodong presided over the signing ceremony. PKU President Zhou and Schneider Electric President Zhao Guohua delivered a speech respectively, expressing the common idea and developing goal on energy saving and emission reduction. President Zhou said that PKU had been continuously working on the construction of a green campus and advocating the idea of “green education base” over recent years and had made considerable achievement. PKU can do better and at the same time promote the development of the disciplines and the training of people concerned by cooperating with Schneider.
 

President Zhao Guohua hoped that Schneider Electric (China) would devote itself to promote the energy-saving and the low-carbon activities in colleges and universities, and provide the talented Chinese youth with support on energy management and innovation.

After President Zhao’s speech, Zhu Hai, President of Schneider Electric (China) Investment Co., Ltd., and Prof. Chen Shiyi, signed the agreement. President Zhou and President Zhao unveiled the plaque for the China University Center of Energy Management. On behalf of Peking University, President Zhou presented an inscription of “working for the world and prospering forever” to President Zhao while President Zhao gave an inscription of “making the best use of anything and enjoy the benefit of everything” to PKU in return. The inscriptions were written on the spot by the calligrapher Hou Shuangting.

Background:

Energy saving and emission reduction are challenges faced by the whole world. It is the responsibility of Peking University to provide education and undertake scientific researches on energy saving and emission reduction to promote the development of it in China. Schneider Electric has been working on saving energy and improving the effect of management, and it has a wealth of experience and a strong research and development team. PKU and Schneider have a common responsibility in energy-saving and energy –applying area. Under such circumstances, PKU and Schneider set up a strategic alliance and established a research center, which will become the most influential model program of China in the field of energy management in three to five years in the future.

Schneider Electric is in charge of establishing a central energy system laboratory, which can be mainly used in the course of green campus. Moreover, by means of providing courses of energy management, both sides can make full use of the research center, promote the development of energy management, and offer trainings for talented people in this field. Meanwhile, as the starting point of “2010 PKU Green Campus Program”, the cooperation will help PKU with its energy saving and construction of a green campus. The center will also serve as an open platform and provide shared information, cooperation of program, and construction of concerned disciplines for other colleges and universities.
