Peking University Delegation’s Visit to Europe

Peking University, July 6, 2017: During June 16 to 23, Lin Jianhua, president of Peking University, visited Switzerland, France, and Britain. He attended international meetings, visited cooperative academies, and participated in alumni events. Accompanying persons are: director of Office of Scientific Research Zhou Hui, director of Alumni Office Li Yuning, executive deputy dean of Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences Qu Jingdong.


In Switzerland
 
The first stop is Switzerland. Lin attended the eleventh Glion Colloquium and delivered a speech named “Change and Mission of Chinese Universities” to review the development and achievements of Chinese higher education and illustrate PKU’s development concepts. In Switzerland, Lin, together with nearly 100 PKU alumni, witnessed the establishment of Switzerland Peking University Alumni Association.
 



Visiting SOLEIL
 
The second stop is Paris. Lin visited some newly integrated universities such as Paris SOLEIL Synchronous Acceleration Center, Paris Sciences and Letters Research University, and Paris Saclay University. He developed insight into the reformation of France higher education and discussed the possibility of cooperation.

The last stop is Britain. Lin visited Louise Richardson, president of Oxford University, and introduced the idea of area study and clinical medicine +X. Lin and Richardson agreed that, as a member of International Alliance of Research Universities, Peking University and Oxford University should make good use of the platform to promote bilateral and multilateral communication. They both expected further cooperation in the field of medical big data. Lin also attended the opening ceremony for the completeness of the new building of Confucius Institute, Institute of Education, University College of London (UCL). This new teaching building will play an important role in the Chinese-teaching in England. Lin noted that, in the golden age of diplomatic relations between China and Britain, the strategic cooperation between PKU and UCL not only concerned the scientific cooperation and communication between these two universities, but also promoted mutual benefits between China and Britain.
 
In Paris and London, Lin also met PKU alumni, introduced the development and reformation of PKU, and expressed his hope that PKU alumni would promote the cooperation between the host country and PKU, and even the communication between the host country and China. He also talked about the talents’ introduction policy in China and welcomed outstanding alumni to come back to PKU.
