Peking University, Nov. 11, 2017: On November 9, 2017, Peking University and University College London (UCL) agreed on details for their strategic cooperation. The two universities will cooperate in various fields such as science, technology, culture, and ecology. Through the Megacities Sustainable Development Research Project, UCL Bartlett’s global faculty of the built environment and the PKU School of Urban and Environmental Science will work together to develop policies for solving problems in megacities such as Beijing and London. Through the Reducing Incidences of Spina Bifida Research Project, UCL’s Institute of Child Health and Peking University’s Health Science Center will jointly develop a research project with a fund of 5 million pounds. The project aims to further test and confirm a preliminary finding that common vitamins found in fruits, vegetables, nuts, and meat can effectively reduce the incidence of spina bifida by studying 9,000 pregnant women in China. The Confucius Institute Project at UCL’s Institute of Education aims to reform the teaching of Chinese in British schools and strive to provide each secondary school with opportunities to study Chinese. In addition, a series of curricular cooperation projects are also included in the agreement, such as an MBA program co-founded by the UCL School of Management and the PKU National School of Development in September this year, as well as the new 5-year dual medical degree program.

Lin Jianhua
