Peking University, Nov. 10, 2017: On November 9, 2017, Professor Michael Arthur, president of University College London (UCL), visited the School of Chinese as a Second Language at Peking University accompanied by other six delegates. Zhao Yang, dean of the School of Chinese as a Second Language, met the guests and welcomed them. Li Jianxin, deputy dean of the School of Chinese as a Second Language, Yao Jun, director of the Center of Network Resources, and Associate Professor Liu Xiaoyu, director of the Mandarin Education Project (MEP), attended the meeting as well.

Zhao Yang first gave a brief introduction of the School of Chinese as a Second Language, and stressed its achievements in the field of information technology. Katharine Carruthers, president of the Confucius Institute at University London College, introduced the collaboration between the Confucius Institute and the School of Chinese as a Second Language at Peking University. Michael Arthur declared his appreciation for this long-term collaboration and recognized the support from School of Chinese as a Second Language. The two sides decided to reinforce the cooperation through the Mandarin Education Project for cultivating more Chinese-speaking talent in Britain.
Established in 1826, University London College ranks among the best institutes of higher education in the world. On October, 2016, the Confucius Institute in UCL, which was jointly established with PKU, received ten million pounds from the UK Department of Education, in support of the Mandarin Education Project, which focuses on helping British middle school students learn Chinese.
