Tian Gang meets Akram Zeynalli

Apart from the warm welcome, Tian Gang made a brief introduction of PKU’s history and departments. Tian Gang noted that according to the data of ESI (Essential Science Indicators), Peking University ranks world top 1% in 21 fields, standing out as the best in Mainland China. Besides, Peking University successfully entered the A list of China’s “Double World-Class” initiative released in September. With 41 disciplines selected by the project, PKU ranks first among universities in the nation. With regional and national studies as well as clinical medicine included in the key research directions, PKU also hopes to cooperate with Azerbaijan in these fields.

Zeynalli expressed his appreciation for Tian’s welcome. He stated that he had just handed the credential to President Xi Jinping this September, and PKU was the first university he visited since he took over the position. He pointed out that close cooperation between the two nations in various fields, such as economy and trade, had been carried out since the proposal of China’s One Belt One Road Initiative. However, the initiative was not limited to commercial aspect, exchanges in humanities and education are also of great importance. The initiative had brought peace, stability, and prosperity to the countries along the proposed route. Zeynalli hoped that the initiative could promote communication between universities in Azerbaijan and PKU, and sincerely invited teachers and students from PKU to visit Azerbaijan.

Tian agreed with Zeynalli and promised to promote broad and deep cooperation between Peking University and Azerbaijani universities and research institutions.
