Republic of Korea President Moon Jae-in visits Peking University

Peking University, Dec. 16, 2017: Welcomed by students and faculties, the president of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in visited Peking University and delivered a speech in Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center on Dec 15, 2017.


Before Moon’s speech, president of Peking University Lin Jianhua expressed gladness at the meeting with president Moon and reviewed close communication and corporation between China and South Korea during 25 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties. He then introduced the history and great research achievements of Department of Korean in PKU, which also played an important role in the China-ROK  youth exchanges in the past 25 years. Lin said PKU would carry on promoting bilateral friendly relations through future cooperation with universities in Korea. . 

President Moon Jae-in began his speech with compliment of Peking University’s beautiful campus and glorious history. As China and Korea  shared a similar culture, many Korean literary intellectuals who traveled or studied in China in the past and laid a foundation for China-ROK friendship and close intensive exchanges today.

Moon said he deeply agreed with many parts of governing philosophy put forward by president Xi Jinping in the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. He believed that ‘the Chinese Dream’ was not only the dream of China but also the dream of the Asia even the world. He expressed his admiration for China's development achievements as well as adventurous and young entrepreneurs in China. 

In the end of the lecture, PKU President Lin Jianhua and PKU Council Chairman Hao Ping presented president Moon Jae-in a model plaque of Imperial University of Peking, which is PKU’s predecessor. Moon also gave PKU his own autobiography in return.
