Peking University, March 21, 2018: On the afternoon of March 13, 2018, Professor Frank Pacard, vice president of École Polytechnique, accompanied by Le Goff Gaëlle, deputy director for Marketing and International Relations of École Polytechnique  paid a visit to Peking University. PKU Vice President Tian Gang met with them. They had a discussion on the cooperation over the dual-degree program on mathematical sciences between the two universities.

Professor Frank Pacard and the heads of School of Mathematical Sciences reviewed how the program went in the recent two years. They agreed on further cooperation and they would encourage more students to participate in the program. The two sides also planned to extend this program to the area of physics. During the process, Professor Frank Pacard gave a detailed introduction of the program to the students.

The two sides conducted in-depth discussions on the further development of undergraduate exchange, joint summer programs, and research cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence between the two universities. Tian Gang stated that École Polytechnique and Peking University both have strong scientific research and teaching strengths in science and engineering and have cooperated well for a long time. He hoped that the two universities could further deepen their relationship, strengthen alliances, and establish a comprehensive mode of cooperation in exchanging students, conducting scientific research and internships, and jointly teaching.

Background:

The dual-degree program on mathematical sciences between Peking University and École Polytechnique started in 2014. Eligible students should study at Peking University for three years and then go to École Polytechnique to study for another three years. The students will obtain their bachelor’s degree from Peking University after finishing their first-year study in France. After completing the next two year’s study, students will get the degree of engineering from École Polytechnique. After that, students can choose to return to Peking University and study for one more year to get PKU master’s degree and École Polytechnique’s diploma. This program is unprecedented in China’s universities and it is planned to extend to the area of physics.
