[PKU International Culture Festival 2018] Belt and Road Youth Forum held

Peking University, October 25, 2018: On 21st October 2018, the 2nd Peking University Belt and Road Youth Forum was successfully held in 898 Innovation Space of Guanghua School of Management, Peking University.

This forum was themed on “new youth, new dream and new world”. All the professors, youths and foreign ambassadors shared their experiences and opinions of the significance of “Belt and Road” initiative.


Firstly, Wu Changqi, professor of Strategy Management at Guanghua School of Management, gave a speech about “Belt and Road” initiative and the new tendency of globalization. After his brief introduction of the three rounds of globalization, Professor  Wu cited “No road, no economy” to commonly illustrate strategic importance of “Belt and Road” initiative. Later, Zan Tao, associate dean of Institute of International and Regional Studies of Peking University, further explained the implication of ‘Silk Road’ through his previous experiences in Turkey。


As for the foreign ambassadors attending this forum, they also shared their attitudes towards ‘Silk Road’. Fariz Mehdawi, the Palestinian ambassador, representatively emphasized the significance of intercultural communication through tracking back to the diplomatic history of China. He said that we should follow the trend of globalization and mutually maintain the world peace.



As a delegate of youths, Ankur Shah, studying postgraduate of Politics and International Relations at Yenching Academy, presented us with his 105-day trip along the Silk Road. As a witness of ‘Belt and Road’, he provided us with a landscape of cultural diversity and international communication.



During “Ambassador-Scholar-Youth Roundtable Forum”, the last part of the agenda, the ambassadors and professors responded to questions related to “Belt and Road” posed by the youths. It contained successful practices in cross-border E-commerce made by youths, the role of youths in national governance, the way China extending its cooperation with society and NGOS under the framework of bilateral government, and the interaction between youths and the society. It is definitely a collision of thoughts when the youths discussed the present and the future. New thoughts and new ways are waiting to be pursued by them.
