President of the University of Chicago Robert Zimmer visits Peking University

Peking University, Dec. 7, 2018: On the afternoon of December 3rd, Robert Zimmer, president of the University of Chicago (UChicago) came to visit Peking University. PKU Council Chairman Qiu Shuiping and PKU President Hao Ping met with Zimmer’s party. Also present were PKU Executive Vice President Wang Bo and staff of PKU Office of International Relations and PKU Education Foundation.

Qiu and Zimmer talked at PKU Island Pavilion. Qiu noted that the cooperation between Chinese and American universities is conducive to mutual understanding between the two countries. As Peking University and the University of Chicago share many similarities in discipline construction, Qiu hoped that the two universities could become closer strategic partners. Zimmer agreed with Qiu and stated that UChicago values its friendship with PKU. With the well-established foundation for cooperation between the two universities, he believed that the two universities would achieve further collaboration and reciprocal development.

Hao Ping met with Zimmer and his companions in the central nave of Linhuxuan. Hao pointed out that PKU and UChicago have long maintained sound cooperative relations. With the established collaborative relationship, the two sides can further advance their cooperation in joint supervision of students and mutual recruitment of scholars. Besides, the two universities can also collaborate in new fields such as artificial intelligence. Zimmer remarked that PKU is a significant partner of UChicago and he hoped that in the future the two universities could conduct more substantive cooperation in areas aforementioned.
