The 13th Confucius Institute Conference held

Peking University, Dec. 17, 2018: On December 4th 2018, the 13th Confucius Institute Conference  was held in Chengdu, Sichuan. The conference was hosted  by Confucius Institute Headquarters  and Sichuan Provincial Government, and organized by Sichuan Provincial Department of Education and the government of Chengdu. Themed on ‘Facilitating the new development through reform and innovation, forging a brighter future with concerted efforts’, the conference included principal forum, special forum and workshop.

Sun Chunlan, vice premier of the State Council  and chairman of Confucius Institute attended the conference, awarding 10 universities in 9 countries that first established Confucius Institute. The Opening Ceremony was held by Chen Baosheng, minster of Education Department and vice chairman of Confucius Institute. Sun Chunlan pointed out that China consistently encouraged intercultural communication, and positively supported worldwide cooperation in developing Confucius Institute. As President Xi emphasized, Confucius Institute is the bridge of intercultural communication between China and the world. The education quality and service of Confucius Institute had improved with the efforts of China and other countries, contributing more to the Chinese learning and business cooperation worldwide.

As for the aspect of teaching, Confucius Institute would utilize innovative teaching methods, strengthen the qualification of teachers and improve the quality evaluating system, so as to form an authoritative teaching platform. Furthermore, abundant activities, courses of practical skills and Chinese medicine should be held in order to promote the communication and cooperation China and the world.

Hao Ping, president of Peking University, also attended the conference. After appreciating the attendance of delegates, he expressed his hope to further strengthen the cooperation among every Confucius Constitute worldwide and to hold this conference every year in rotation. After 14 years’ development, Peking University has built 10 Confucius Institutes worldwide. Among them, the Confucius Institutes at Chulalongkorn University, University College London and Cairo University were respectively awarded with ‘Global Demonstration Confucius Institute’ by Confucius Institute Headquarters.
