Peking University Berggruen Research Center founded
Dec 20, 2018

Peking University, November 29, 2018: The Peking University Berggruen Research Center Launching Ceremony was held in Peking University Education Foundation on December 19. Amidst the leapfrog development of science and technology in recent years, the Center was set up at a timely moment when intellectuals and thinkers across the world are supposed to exchange views in relation to a wide range of topics and issues bewildering the whole society.

President of Peking University Hao ping and founder of the US-based Berggruen Institute Nicolas Berggruen attended the ceremony, along with dozens of scholars from institutions including Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

According to President Hao, PKU upholds the idea of understanding China from an interdisciplinary perspective and a globalized context, which resembles Berggruen’s viewpoint and prompts the founding of the Center.

In Berggruen’s address, he pointed out that good concepts always stem from the integration of different culture. As Berggruen Institute highly values the profound Chinese culture and the country’s time-honored history, Peking University Berggruen Research Center aims to draw upon the oriental wisdom to tackle a myriad of challenges and apply such wisdom to various research areas, such as human progress, social changes and global governance.

In the meantime, former president of Peking University Lin Jianhua and PKU professor Roger T. Ames were also present, and both of them were appointed co-chair of the advisory board of Peking University Berggruen Research Center in an attempt to further the development of the Center.
