The 5th PKU-UW Symposium on Higher Education held in Peking University

Peking University, May 30, 2019: From May 25 to 26, the 5th UW-PKU Symposium on Higher Education was held in Stanford Center of Peking University. PKU President Hao Ping and University of Wisconsin Chancellor Rebecca Blank, attended the opening ceremony. The symposium also attracted scholars, faculty members and students from China and abroad.

Hao Ping congratulated on the opening of the symposium and expressed a warm welcome on behalf of PKU to all attendees. He pointed out that many excellent Chinese students who studied at the University of Wisconsin in the early 20th century have become eminent leaders in different industries today. He also reviewed the history of educational cooperation between China and UW, saying that while the world is undergoing new changes, the future cooperation between Peking University and University of Wisconsin remains promising and much anticipated. 

Rebecca Blank, on behalf of University of Wisconsin, said that international exchanges and cooperation are becoming increasingly important, so she is looking forward to closer cooperation between PKU and UW and even a new type of partnership. 

Scholars who participated in the symposium discussed the past and present of higher education development in China and the rest of the world. They also gave keynote speeches revolving around topics such as “China on the World Arena: Reflections on International and Area Studies in the 21st century”, “The Political Dimension of International and Area Studies”. 

At the end of the symposium, professors from PKU, UW, and Stanford University made closing remarks, in which they expressed their sincere gratitude to all the participants at the conference, and to the teachers and students who arranged and prepared the event. They also expressed their earnest anticipations for deeper cooperation between both sides.
