Joint Research Symposium of PKUHSC–KCL British Heart Foundation Center of Research Excellence held

Peking University, Nov 23. 2019: On November 12, the Joint Research Symposium between Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC) and British Heart Foundation Center of Research Excellence of King's College London (KCL) was held at PKUHSC.

At the meeting, Professor Han Jingyan, dean of PKUHSC Department of Integrative Medicine and president of PKUHSC Research Institute of Integrative Medicine, made a speech entitled "The Mechanism for the Tonifying Qi and Activating Blood of QiShenYiQi Pills Involves Regulation of Mitochondrical Respiratory Chain"; Giovanni E. Mann, professor of cardiovascular medicine of KCL and director of International Exchange of British Heart Foundation Center of Research Excellence, gave a report entitled "Keap1-Nrf2 Regulated Redox Signaling and Neurovascular Protection in Ischemic Stroke"; Professor Xiao Ruiping, president of PKU Research Institute of Molecular Medicine, delivered a report entitled "Ca2 + / calmodulin-dependent Kinase II and Cardiac Cell Death"; Zhang Min, research fellow at the British Heart Foundation Center, gave a speech entitled "NOX, ROS and Heart Diseases". They had heated discussions with the participants.
In the afternoon, 13 students from different departments of the School of Basic Medical Sciences, including the Department of Integrative Medicine, the Department of immunology and the Department of Neurobiology, and from Peking University First Hospital and Peking University People’s Hospital demonstrated their research results in the form of posters and discussed with experts from KCL.
PKUHSC and KCL are sister schools and have close scientific research exchanges and cooperation. KCL plans to select nine doctoral candidates from PKUHSC graduates of 2020. More than 80 postgraduates and undergraduates attended the meeting, and 27 participated in the selection interview for doctoral candidates.
