2019 Peking University Global Alumni Forum held in Wuhan

Peking University, Dec. 1, 2019: On December 1, 2019 Peking University Global Alumni Forum was held in Wuhan, a city in Central China's Hubei province. Wang Bo, vice president of Peking University and executive vice chairman of the Alumni Association, and other distinguished guests attended the opening ceremony.

The forum, with the theme “The Mission and Social Responsibility of Universities in the New Era”, aims to create a networking platform for global alumni and discuss in depth the mission and social responsibility of universities in the new era. 

Wang Bo delivered an opening speech at the forum, saying that in the current tide of China’s new round of reform and opening up, Peking University has always stood up and fulfilled its mission during the magnificent times. Alumni are the most important sources of support for the university to keep in mind the mission of educating people and talents and to ensure the vigorous development of various undertakings. Wang Bo also expressed his hope that in the new era, Peking University will work with 300,000 PKUers to fulfill its mission and to build a better future for the nation.

In his speech, Zhang Shihua, director of Wuhan's Publicity Department, stated that Peking University is a world-renowned first-class university. It has maintained a good cooperative relationship with Wuhan, sending a large number of outstanding talents to Wuhan, and conducting substantial cooperation in many fields. In recent years, more and more graduates choose to work in Wuhan. He highlighted the recent development strategy and five significant advantages of Wuhan and hoped to use this alumni forum as an opportunity to further strengthen the cooperation between Wuhan and Peking University in scientific and technological research and development, achievement transformation, education and training, and system construction.

After the opening speech, the signing ceremony of Wuhan East-lake High-tech Development Zone and Peking University alumni cooperation project was held.

After the signing ceremony, 4 alumni gave keynote speeches, including Xu Hongxing, Yu Miaojie, Li Yinhui, Li Yongxin. They shared their learning experiences at PKU and revealed how these experiences had shaped their values of shouldering social responsibility.

In the afternoon, three panel discussions, i.e. “Targeted Poverty Alleviation and Rural Revitalization”, “Business Virtue and the Future”, “Peking University and Jingchu Culture”, were held. More than 20 Peking University alumni, scholars and participants from different industries shared their insights and exchanged views with each other.
