Professor Dong Qiang appointed International Confucian Association Special Consultant

Peking University, September 22, 2021: The International Confucian Association (ICA) held a remote ceremony in Wenlan Pavilion, Hangzhou, and presented the Imperial Collection of Four to non-governmental organizations in Taiwan. President of the ICA Liu Yandong attended the ceremony. Dong Qiang, head of the French Department of the School of Foreign Languages of Peking University, was invited to preside over the ceremony and was appointed as one of the first special consultants of the ICA.

International Confucianism Association

The ICA is an international academic organization and was jointly initiated in 1994 by academic groups related to Confucianism research in China, South Korea, Japan, the United States, Germany, Singapore, Vietnam, etc. In 2019, Liu Yandong was elected as the sixth president, and former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda served as the chairman.

The ICA adheres to studying Confucianism and carrying forward the spirit of Confucianism in order to promote freedom, equality, peaceful development, and lasting prosperity.
Through 27 years of effort, the ICA has become an international academic organization with important influence.

In order to further improve the level of academic research, strengthen international exchanges, and improve international influence, the association will appoint scholars with recognized academic achievements and international influence to become its special consultant. Professor Dong Qiang is one of the first special consultants hired by the ICA.

Prof Dong Qiang

Dong Qiang is head of the French Department of the School of Foreign Languages in Peking University. He specializes in the history of French literature and the study of modern French language and literature. He is committed to cultural exchange between China and France and has translated The Selected Poems by Li Bai and Analects of Confucius into French. In 2009, the French government awarded him the Order of the Academic Palms. In 2014, he was selected as one of the “50 important people in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-French diplomatic relations”. In 2015, Dong Qiang was awarded with the “Legion of Honor”, decorated by three the President of France. In 2016, he was appointed Honorary Doctorate of the Free University of Brussels, and in November, he was elected the first Chinese communication academician of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences.

In November 2020, Dong Qiang cooperated with Le Clezio, the winner of the French Nobel Prize in literature, to translate The Road of Tang Poetry (Le flot de la poésie continuera de couler) into French, which had a wide impact in France.
