[Lecture] Designing Digital Technology and AI to teach for Collective Intelligence

Abstract:

So far Artificial Intelligence (AI) has mainly been used to support individual learning and individual exam success. However, the big challenges we face today suggest the need for more Collective Intelligence. In this talk I will describe what Collective Intelligence is and outline how we can design digital technologies including AI, especially language assistants like ChatGPT, to support teaching for Collective Intelligence. As well as offering a theory for the design of education for the future I will share some details of projects that we have run, are running and want to run in the future.  

Biography:

Rupert Wegerif is a professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge. He is founder and academic director of the Digital Education Futures Initiative at Hughes Hall, Cambridge. He is the author of several influential books and articles in the area of educational theory, educational psychology and education with technology. His research focuses on the theory and practice of education with technology in the digital age, especially technology supported education for dialogue. He offers a new approach to education in the Internet Age: education as expanding dialogic space.
