Abstract:

By 2050, it is projected that 70% of the world's population will live in urban areas. Human-dominated landscapes are distinct because of an abundance of impervious surfaces, buildings, and people. Research examining urban wildlife is nascent. However, common traits have been identified that wildlife inhabiting urban areas share, as well as trends about how wildlife adapt to living in human-dominated landscapes. This presentation will discuss urban wildlife broadly, and focus on a case study about how to canid species have adapted to city life.
