His research has focused on complex interactions between the body's central nervous system and the immune system, with a long-term goal of elucidating cellular and molecular mechanisms designating these interactions in neurodevelopmental, neurodegenerative.or psychiatric disorders. Particularly, a series of discoveries by Dr. Kipnis' lab in the past decade have established the unique immune properties of skull bone marrow and meningeal lymphatic system. For those landmark achievements, he has been recognized with many honors and awards, including anNIH Director's Pioneer Award, an NIH/NIA MERIT Award, and the election to the U.S. National Academy of Medicine.
