Summary:
An exponential surge is taking place within Chinese companies expanding green manufacturing abroad. Mathias Larsen's research project is the first to assemble a dataset of these investments. From that, it entails comprehensive statistics and analysis on this emerging phenomenon. The guest lecture includes investment numbers, impacts on host countries, and pathways for collaborative use of the dataset.

Mathias Larsen
Mathias Larsen is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Brown University's Watson Institute for International & Public Affairs. From May to July 2025, he is a Visiting Scholar in the Institute of Carbon Neutrality at Peking University. He is a political economist studying the role of the state in green transition, focusing on the case of China and other countries outside the global North. He examines how interventionist state approaches are feasible in the global South, under different political preconditions, by using different policy tools, and while facing different challenges. He previously worked for four years at a Chinese think tank on green finance, the International Institute of Green Finance, as well as at the UN in New York, Nairobi, Bangkok, and Nairobi. His research has been published in leading journals, such as the Review of International Political Economy, Socio-Economic Review, and New Political Economy. He holds Master's degrees from Copenhagen Business School, Sciences Po Paris, as well as Peking University and received a double PhD in international political economy from Copenhagen Business School and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
