Abstract:

Immune cells rely heavily on the uptake of exogenous nutrients for survival, growth, and differentiation, particularly during the start of an immune event. Yet all cells seem to be in competition for a limited pool of nutrients at this time. Determining the nutrients that each cell type gets, and how this affects their downstream biology, remains an open question in immunometabolism.

Quantifying the uptake of these small nutrients at the single cell level is difficult. Our work presents a new approach to studying the nutrient uptake using 'click' -chemistry.
These nutrient probes are multi-modal and compatible with many other gold standard techniques such as Flow cytometry, RNA-Seq, Extracellular flux, Proteomics and Microscopy, and can be applied for studying the in vivo uptake of nutrients.
