Abstract:
In 2026, the PKU Hall and the School of Foreign Languages jointly launched the “World Literary Masterpieces on Stage” series, bringing high-definition stage screenings of world classics to campus audiences. Through pre-screening talks by PKU scholars from different language departments, the series combines literary interpretation with theatrical appreciation, helping students better understand classic works in cross-cultural contexts.
Adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel, the musical Anna Karenina follows Anna’s passionate yet tragic love affair with Count Vronsky as she challenges the moral codes of Russian high society. This high-definition screening of the Moscow Operetta State Academic Theatre’s production features more than 40 musical numbers blending classical, rock, and pop elements, alongside carefully restored 19th-century Russian sets and costumes. Starring Honored Artists of Russia Ekaterina Guseva and Sergey Lee, the production brings Tolstoy’s timeless tragedy to life with powerful vocals and striking stage presence.
