[Lecture] Rethinking Coexistence with Nature: When Xiaoman Meets Climate Change
May. 22, 2026

Date: May 22, 2026, 14:00–17:00

Abstract:
As part of the "24 Solar Terms" honors course jointly hosted by the Office of Global Communications and Lanyuan Centre, this fifth lecture invites students to explore the wisdom of Xiaoman in the context of contemporary climate change.

Xiaoman, one of the 24 solar terms in the traditional Chinese calendar, marks a moment when summer crops begin to grow without being fully ripened. It carries a philosophy of moderation, balance, and renewal.

Drawing from traditional ecological thought and modern climate science, the speakers will discuss how ancient wisdom may inspire new approaches to sustainability, coexistence, and humanity’s responsibility toward the future.

Speakers:
Song Yingjie, director of the Key Open Laboratory of the Twenty-Four Solar Terms at the China Meteorological Administration

Wang Binbin, director of the Climate Future Global Innovation Lab (C Force) at PKU's Institute of Carbon Neutrality
