“General Plan for Beijing’s Land Use” by PKU Approved by State Council

Peking University, Beijing, Nov. 5, 2009: Recently, the “General Plan for Beijing Land Use (2006-2020)”, edited by College of Urban and Environmental Sciences of Peking University (PKU), was approved by the State Council.

 

Since August 2004, as the technical support unit, PKU College of Urban and Environmental Sciences has been in charge of the evaluation of the “General Plan for Beijing Land Use(1997-2010)” ’s implementation and the compiling of the “General Plan for Beijing Land Use (2006-2020)” ’s outlines under the leading of Beijing Municipal Government. More than 60 teachers and students took part in this project. On the review meeting of the plan’s general outline organized by the Ministry of Land and Resources, Associate Prof. Lin Jian, the team leader, gave a report on their work and won approval.

 

The overall aim of the “General Plan for Beijing Land Use” is the harmonious development of urban and rural areas, and using the land frugally and intensively. It also proposes the spatial layout of land use in the future, including the ecological conservative space, basic farmland protective zones, and urban developing areas. The ratification and implementation of the plan  is a major step in the process of building the capital Beijing to be an international city, a cultural city, and a pleasant-to-live city.

 

It is also known that specific plans for the countries and towns of Beijing will be compiled in a faster pace under the guide of the “General Plan for Beijing Land Use”.
