Mar 29, 2022
Peking University, March 29, 2022: There have been newly-added phone models that support Peking University campus card’s near-field communication (NFC) function, including those of Huawei, Xiaomi and Vivo. Users of these phone models, amounting to about 32% of all phone users on campus, are now able to apply for their NFC digital campus cards via the Peking University App and enjoy the conveniences brought by this function. According to the statistics, the number of NFC campus card users at Peking University has reached 4790 with more than 3290 transactions within one day.

The NFC digital campus card of Peking University is co-developed by PKU Computer Center, Beijing Synjones Chengtong It Co., Ltd., along with various phone producers. It enables students’ smart phones to function just like a digital campus card. Simply swipe your phone, and you’ll be able to pay for your meal, enter your dormitory and borrow books in the library within seconds. Without having to carry around a traditional card around, students are finding campus life even more convenient.

Students can obtain their NFC digital campus card by installing Peking University’s App (for more information, see https://its.pku.edu.cn/download_portalapp.jsp). Following that, students can enter the key words “校园卡” (English: campus card) into the search box and click on the “ NFC” icon to be guided through the procedures of applying for the card. Once that is done, the NFC digital campus card can be used to make payments and enter buildings. All they need to do is swipe their phones.

Campus card services that can be accessed through smartphones via Apps, mini programs on WeChat have garnered popular support from faculty and students ever since they have been released by PKU Computer Center in Fall 2021. Since NFC functions require the support of mobile phone systems, PKU Computer Center have been coordinating closely with many phone producers to push forward its development and conduct test runs. Huawei, Xiaomi and Vivo started to provide services that support the binding of Peking University NFC digital campus card since September 22 last year.

PKU Computer Center is now furthering cooperation with other phone producers as well as Beijing Municipal Administration & Communication Card Co., Ltd to enhance the digital services of PKU campus card. In order to improve student experience and the quality of life on campus for faculty and students, Peking University is committed to building a “smart campus” by exploring and implementing digital technology into campus life.
