Peking University, October 21, 2022: Quietly, the colors of autumn have found their way to the PKU campus. The lush green of summer—having gone with the first chills of the year—is superseded by a spectrum of golden glow. In the golden time of the year, we think of Keats’ season of mellow fruitfulness, and we think of Frost’s hues of gold—the poets’ lines speak of fall in a wistful way, not just for its ephemeral beauty, but for the fact that nothing remains in permanence. And we hear the leaves falling in slow motion, and the rustling, crunching sound of footfalls made by passersby, who would look up at the bright yellow canopies above their heads and have their breaths taken away, even if just for a moment.
