Peking University, December 27, 2022: The ice skating rink at Weiming Lake has begun its trial run on December 24. With the thick layer of ice and the white frost forming on the lake in the early winter of Beijing, the skating rink is tested to be secure and reliable to welcome the laughter and enthusiasm of PKU’s teachers and students.



Inheriting the spirit of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics

Since Beijing successfully held the 2022 Winter Olympics, multiple winter sports have become popular leisure activities, one of which is notably ice skating. Ice skating has proven to effectively strengthen the muscles of our body, as well as being publicly recognized as an ideal aerobic exercise for all ages. 

Now, with this seasonal opportunity of skating on campus, let’s get active despite the winter chills and start skating!


The ice rink at Weiming Lake has been known to be the seasonal location for ice skating and ice sleighs, which also includes equipment rental service provided by Peking University. However, you must be ready to practice many times on the ice if you want to become an expert. Call your best friends to learn a new skill, Go! Go! Go!

Follow the tradition of Peking University

Though the frozen Weiming Lake seldom changes in winter, the incoming skaters each winter keeps on changing each year. As early as the establishment of Yenching University, it has been a long-standing playground for students to conduct outdoor winter sports. Over the past 90 years, generations of teachers and students of Peking University have played ice hockey, showcased skating performances, held PE classes, and even hosted grand sports meetings on this precious ice stage.


Long ago, former PKU President Cai Yuanpei put forward his educational philosophy that a complete personality must encompass both the mind and soul, and comprehensive education cannot leave without the emphasis of physical education. Current young students in Peking University are actively inheriting the tradition of enjoying sports by playing ice sports. Have a close look at the students skating! There are students with different skill sets demonstrating their love for the ice! Some are skilled, and others are rookies starting their first steps on the ice, cautiously. 

Whether professional or not, they are all having fun! And that, is the true essense of sports.


Skating together into a joyful New Year

On the familiar icy field at Weiming Lake, every single person who has ever travelled across the ice are intertwined with tracks of another. The tracks you accidentally slip on might coincide with the route one former professor. The location where youthful students fall down might also be the dating spot where couples skate hand in hand. During this precious time on the ice, students can be seen to hold hands tightly. As their friendship blossoms, the cheerful laughter on the ice have melted away their troubles in this wintery hour.
