Peking University, March 6, 2023: Recently, Peking University (PKU) organized an orientation and welcome party for over 125 international students from 78 colleges in 28 countries. The party was a great opportunity for the international students to familiarize themselves with the PKU campus and settle into campus life.
Hello, New Faces
At the welcome party, teachers and student assistants from the PKU International Students Division extended their warmest welcome to everyone. During the ice-breaking session, students hailing from different countries and regions were randomly divided into groups, where they each shared more about their hometowns, alma maters, and their experiences since arriving at PKU.
你好,北大
After the ice-breakers, the teachers and student assistants briefly introduced the history and culture of PKU to the students, including its amazing classroom experiences, interesting extracurricular activities, as well as campus rules and regulations. They encouraged students to explore and experience first-hand the rich and diverse culture in China and at Peking University.
PKU Quiz Time!
To help the students understand campus life better, the organizing team arranged an interactive game of True or False. New students were split into teams and had to compete to answer a series of questions regarding PKU, while the team with the most correct responses would win.
The game was exciting, as group members cooperated seamlessly, impressing the audience with their teamwork. They also encountered some "tricky" questions, which led to moments of hilarity! Eventually, while the group with the best chemistry clinched exquisite prizes, everyone got to enjoy themselves learning about PKU and forging unforgettable friendships.
Sharing by PKU Peers
Three PKU seniors were present to provide new students with practical information and advice on getting to grips with life at PKU as well as in Beijing.
PhD student Yang Zhihan gave tips on the usage of library resources, sports and healthcare facilities available on campus. She highlighted the vibrant student clubs and societies at PKU, which cater to a wide variety of interests, allowing every student to find their niche.
Exchange student Siana Kazi from the Free University of Berlin, who came to PKU last semester, shared that convenience stores, Yanyuan bottled water, study rooms, Weiming BBS, and second-hand trading groups, were indispensable for her life here. Also recommended was online travel software, essential for anyone starting out on a city tour of Beijing.
Last, Li Runfen from the Students' International Communication Association (SICA) introduced ways for international students to broaden their social circles and befriend more local peers.
New Journey Begins
With great enthusiasm and excitement, we welcome all of you from all over the world to the PKU community. We believe that this is a fantastic beginning of a rewarding journey, one that will lead newcomers to become full-fledged PKU-ers.
Here's to a new chapter filled with endless possibilities!
