Embracing Global Diversity, PHBS Hosts Third International Culture Festival
Apr 15, 2025
Peking University, April 15, 2025: With enthusiasm undamped by a drizzle and chilly weather, the Third International Culture Festival at Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS) kicked off on March 30, uniting a vibrant community of students, faculty, and visitors in a lively celebration of cultural diversity.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony
More than 800 participants from over 20 countries and regions, including representatives from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), and Shenzhen MSU-BIT University, gathered at PHBS for this Festival.
It transformed the plaza into a bustling global village, featuring over 30 booths with country-specific food and clothing. From Italian pasta to Korean tteokbokki, Malaysian nyonya kuih, and traditional Chinese sugar painting, the Festival offered a unique opportunity for cross-cultural interaction.
Irresistible delicacies
Francesca Di Credico, an Italian exchange student at PHBS, said her team had spent weeks preparing food and decorations. “The hardest part is food because you really don’t want to bring something cliché.” Partnering with an Italian restaurant in University Town, her booth offered delicacies such as pasta, mortadella focaccia, and tiramisu.
Beside food, the Festival also featured performances, artifact exhibition, and games, all designed to immerse attendees in a fun environment for cultural appreciation.
Héloïse, a French master’s student in management at PHBS, said that she wanted Chinese people to know and maybe visit parts of France other than Paris. “We display pictures showing different regions of France and ask visitors to guess their locations.”
The event concluded with an awards ceremony that recognized the most outstanding booths. The Shandong & Henan Pavilion was given the “Best Food Booth” award, the Brazil Pavilion the “Most Popular Booth” award, and the Uzbekistan Pavilion the “Best Designed Booth” award.
Cultural performances
PHBS officials in attendance included Wang Pengfei, Dean of PHBS; Hai Wen, the inaugural Dean of PHBS and former Vice President of Peking University; Zhang Fanshan and Young Joon Park, both Associate Dean of PHBS; and Mao Na, International Office Director.
