Peking University, November 18, 2024: Peking University came alive with vibrant colors, sounds, and cultural expressions during the highly anticipated International Culture Festival held on November 10. This year’s festival featured an exceptional joint performance by Chinese and international students from different universities, celebrating the rich tapestry of global cultures and promoting a spirit of unity and collaboration.
The festival kicked off with an energetic performance Dancing Through the Strait, by Peking University’s (PKU) Malaysian students, setting an energic tone for the day’s diverse artistic expressions. Following this, Malaysian students from the Communication University of China delivered a heartfelt rendition of Dua Dunia Satu Cinta, a performance that beautifully illustrated the theme of love transcending borders.
The stage was then graced by PKU Russian students with their enchanting piece Four Courtyards, followed by a performance of Climbing the Mountain in Spring by Beijing Foreign Studies University’s Russian students. These acts highlighted the deep cultural connections between Russia and China, showcasing traditional music and dance that resonated with the audience.
The festival also featured a dazzling display of traditional dances from around the world. Mexican students from PKU brought the spirit of Mexico to life with traditional Mexican dance, while Korean students impressed everyone with a dynamic performance that combined taekwondo with Korean traditional music. Adding to the excitement, Kyrgyzstan students delivered a mesmerizing Fire Dance, that left the crowd in awe.
In a celebration of modern creativity, the Peking University FL Crew electrified the stage with a street dance mashup, followed by the soulful performance of the PKU Luv Flow Band. The festival also included performances from Beijing Normal University’s Mongolian students and the Peking University Acappella group, both of which received enthusiastic applause.
The cultural journey continued with Indonesian students from University of International Business and Economics presenting Sisa Rasa, while the PKU Japanese students showcased their traditional dance Soran-Bushi. PKU Russian students returned to the stage with There Was a Birch Tree in the Field.
Southeast Asian culture took center stage with the Cambodian students from PKU performing the Chhayam Dance, and the PKU Singaporean students presenting the The Charm of Singapore. Thai Students concluded the evening with Thai Elegance: The Charm of Cultural Legacy, perfectly encapsulating the event’s spirit.
The Peking University International Culture Festival 2024 was more than just a display of performances—it was a celebration of cultural exchange and collaboration , uniting students from diverse backgrounds. The event cultivated a profound sense of community and understanding, showcasing the beauty of diversity.
