Peking University, May 21, 2026: From May 10-15, Jiang Guohua, vice chair of PKU Council led a delegation to the United States, holding talks with Columbia University and the University of Michigan on undergraduate education reform, teacher development, AI in education, and cultural exchange. During the visit, Peking University and the University of Michigan renewed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on faculty development.
At Columbia University, the delegation discussed undergraduate education, core curriculum development, AI-enabled learning, and potential joint student training programs with Columbia faculty members.
At the University of Michigan, Jiang met with Provost Laurie McCauley and attended a symposium on “Generative AI & Graduate Education.” Sun Hua, director of PKU’s Center for Excellent Teaching and Learning, signed the renewed MoU alongside Vice Provost Valeria Bertacco and Associate Vice Provost Matt Kaplan.
Under the agreement, the two universities will continue to share teaching methodologies and faculty development experience through joint seminars, workshops, and conferences. Since first signing the partnership in 2021, the two institutions have co-hosted annual faculty development programs that have drawn hundreds of educators from Peking University and its partner universities.
During the visit, Jiang also exchanged views with Ravi Pendse, vice president of the University of Michigan, on AI strategies and digital education development. The delegation later visited the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching to learn more about innovative teaching methods.
The visit marks another important step in Peking University’s efforts to deepen educational cooperation with leading universities in the United States, in areas including faculty development, undergraduate education, AI, and cultural exchange.
