West Point Academic Dean Cindy Jebb Visits PKU

Peking University, April 4, 2018: Cindy Jebb, academic dean of West Point, visited Peking University On March 29, and met with Tian Gang, vice president of PKU. Cindy Jebb gave a lecture named “The Academic Development of West Point Members”.

Cindy Jebb graduated from West Point in 1982. In 2016, she was nominated for the position of West Point Academic Dean by Barack Obama, the former president of the United States. She has been the first female academic dean of West Point since its foundation two hundred years ago.

Cindy Jebb introduced the cultivating patterns of West Point members’ academic life. She emphasized education’s function of enabling students to face the future challenges – both maintaining daily disciplines and preserving professional spirit. She said academic education helped the students develop better characters.

Cindy Jebb also talked about the cultivation of people. She said this era is full of rapid technology development and numerous issues. Therefore, students should gradually develop professional ethics, and increase their capability of critical thinking.

In the section of interaction, Cindy Jebb replied warmly to various questions raised by PKU students. She talked about WP’s emphasis on academic education and the rise of female enrollment rate in recent years. At the end, she encouraged students to focus on their present work which would lay a more firm foundation for the future.

Later, Jebb and her delegation met with Tian. Both sides reviewed the cooperation between the two schools since 2007. Tian expressed PKU’s hope for a deeper cooperation between the two schools. Impressed by PKU students. Cindy Jebb said she also wished to improve their communication with Peking University.
