He pointed out that Kissinger was an old friend of Chinese people, and was also a sage for whom we from Peking University had considerable respect. Every time Kissinger visited Peking University, he would like to communicate with the young generation of China and to listen to their ideas. Hao said Peking University had been always paying great attention to academic research in the realm of Sino-US relations, and very grateful for Kissinger’s substantial contributions.

Kissinger thanked for the enthusiastic reception. He claimed he was very glad, last year at this time and this year alike, to meet with the Chinese national leader twice, and that it was also much honored to visit China nearly one hundred times in the past fifty years, witnessing the tremendous changes that took place in China. Nowadays, since the background of our times changed, the importance of Sino-US relations became more apparent. He suggested the US and China should strengthen strategic communication and promote the exchange and cooperation in in various areas. Kissinger also stressed it was Peking University’s sincere invitation that made him believe every time he visited Beijing, he should pay a visit to Peking University, for he was not only deeply attracted by Chinese cultures, but also pleased to discuss with the students.
