Would-be college entrepreneurs competed at PKU
Dec. 08, 2011

Peking University, Dec.7, 2011: The 2nd China University Technology Entrepreneurship Competition (UTEC2) was held at the Sunshine Hall of Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center on December 2. Ten teams from Peking University (PKU) , Tongji University, Northeast Normal University, Southeast University (SEU) and other seven universities performed in the final stage. Tongji University's team won the final crown with its project “the commercial application of BM composite microbial agents’ desulfurization prior to coal burning”.

During show time, these teams’ projects with various themes and focuses were exhibited. Some were close to life, such as SEU’s project "portable two-wheeled electric bicycle" project led by Zhang Zhenyu and PKU’s project "online interactive education based on C2C counseling platform" led by Kuang Yingchun. There were also projects focusing on inventions' further application in enterprises, such as Lanzhou University’s project "fast and embedded parts and the installed spin" led by Du Shuangqing and this year’s champion, Tongji’s project led by Chen Hua. RCM President Wu Jihong, visiting professor of PKU, said that more college students were needed to take part in invention with entrepreneurial spirit. And Tang Jinlong, President of CICC Securities Holdings Co., Limited, said that starting business was difficult, but he encouraged students to enrich themselves with knowledge and practice.

UTEC2, organized by PKU Venture Investiment Seminar, has been held twice so far. It can be said to be a students' competition for technological venture held by  themselves, which in itself embodies its motto. UTEC2 attracted publicity in more than 80 universities across China, with 62 teams competing in the semi-finals. And four professional trainings were provided to students in Beijing on October 22.

This competition also provides college would-be entrepreneurs with an opportunity to show themselves. And thus it serves to a bridge connecting universities, college students and enterprises. UTEC2’s unique feature lies in the fact that it requires students to consider how to realize the application of their inventions, rather than just brainstorm, and meanwhile, students can get comment from the top-ranking investment experts. In December, the competition committee will recommend some key projects to be transformed into substantial results.
