"Yan Yu Lou Tai—Images of Qing Dynasty Architecture in Foreign Documents in the PKU Library"

This project, taken charge by the PKU library Special Collections Hall, is the first of its kind to compile images of historical documents in foreign languages and is an indispensible fundamental project in studying the Qing Dynasty.

According to requests, experts from the PKU Special Collections Hall have named every picture and image. By referring to a myriad of documents, they checked all the names of people, places and architectures against the authoritative texts. They compiled the "PKU Library Catalogue of Images in Ancient Foreign Documents of the Qing Dynasty" and the "PKU Library Catalogue of Photographs in Ancient Foreign Documents of the Qing Dynasty" (a composition of actual photographs), which are together over nine-hundred thousand characters. The project received approval in four aspects, request in contract, quality, usability and anticipating efficiency, in December, 2006.

The main members participating in this project are: Zhang Hongyang, Zou Xinming, Wu Zhengtong, Yin Li, Zhang Lijing and Chen Xiuling. The achievement of this project, "Yan Yu Lou Tai—Images of Qing Dynasty Architecture in Foreign Documents in the PKU Library" has issued by Renmin University Press in June, 2008.
