Peking University April 25, 2023: The School of Journalism and Communication at Peking University recently held the " Nan Men (South Gate) Photo Studio" event on the special occasion of the "World Smile Day." The studio was set up for students at PKU as part of the University’s "Global Engagement Year" celebration and welcomed students to have their smiles photographed.

The photographers at the “Nan Men Photo Studio” were all students from the School of Journalism and Communication. They interacted with the participants, provided guidance on prop selection, and helped them strike the perfect pose. Graduates, students with their friends, and international students in beautiful national costumes were all in attendance.

In total, more than 40 Chinese students and over 30 foreign students received photography services from the Nan Men Photo Studio. Each participant received their requested happy photographs through one-to-one matching, and the studio received many encouraging remarks.

Let’s hear what they have to say about the memorable event!

JAWAD SHABBIR, Pakistan (Kashmir)
“I am extremely fortunate to travel from my homeland Kashmir, Pakistan, to China, a nearby nation with a different culture. Though it is a lengthy tale, I adored it. Under the umbrella of Peking University, PKU offers a multicultural environment. I love how competent the entire "Nan Men Photo Studio" staff is. It was a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate cultural diversity in a single shot.”

KHOO YEU HER, Malaysia
“It was a really great experience! I really like the photos taken and how the photographer guided us regarding the postures. And there were even props provided for students to take some creative pictures. Thanks a lot for holding such a fun and interesting activity. :)”

Sun Hao-Tai
“All the photos from this event came out very high class and professional! I really enjoyed it. The atmosphere of the staff was also very friendly, I really enjoyed the event!”

Nataramon Ponsongkrouk, Thailand
“For me, I especially enjoyed the Nan Men Photo Studio! It was my first experience of being photographed in a photo studio. The photographers were very good at taking photos, they took beautiful pictures and helped me to think of actions. While taking photos with my Thai friends, I also met a Chinese friend who studied Lao and speaks Thai. I think Nan Men Photo Studio not only gave me the experience of taking photos but also gave me the opportunity to meet more people. I am very happy to participate in the Nan Men Photo Studio.”

SHIM JI HEE, South Korea
"What I have accumulated at PKU is not only professional knowledge, but I have also made many precious bonds on campus, and PKUI is the place where I keep growing up. I am very grateful to the university and Nan Men Photo Studio for taking pictures of our good times and helping us to add another sweet memory, and I will always keep the atmosphere and smiles of that time in my heart."

KOH KYUNG NA, South Korea
"I am grateful to Nan Men Photo Studio for giving us this opportunity. I personally did not know the World Smile Day before. In fact, in my daily life, I don't have many moments to smile because I am under a lot of pressure from school, work, and so on. However, through this event, I was able to smile after a long time :) Thank you to the students of Nan Men Photo Studio!

The photographers were very professional, the cameras and lights were very good, and they provided a variety of props. What really impressed me was the gentle attitude of the students! I was nervous at first, but they were so nice to me that I relaxed. Thank you.“

The School of Journalism and Communication will launch a series of activities later, and the smiling photos taken at the Nan Men Photo Studio will be exhibited to the public in a subsequent photo exhibition. More photography works of international students will also be exhibited together with the exhibition.
