Peking University, Beijing, May 13, 2010: For the first time in seven years, Beijing Forum, an annual event for communication and exchanges from academia across the world, will hold special panel sessions on youth matters.
On May 11, the Agreement Signing Ceremony for Beijing Forum 2010, the seventh annual meeting, was held at PKU Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center. President Zhou Qifeng of Peking University and President Kim Jae-youl of the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies (KFAS) signed the agreement on behalf of the two co-sponsors of the forum. According to the agreement, a special panel session for young students will be established in this year’s event.
In the key-note speech, President Zhou pointed out that PKU and the KFAS are both committed to enhancing the academic development of their own region as well as that of the whole world, sharing the same determination and perseverance in achieving the goal of “Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All.” Beijing Forum, which has been going on for years, is exactly the outcome of the two sides’ efforts in realizing the good vision. President Zhou also noted that it is of great significance to establish a panel session specifically for young students this year. The establishment aims at promoting academic exchange and communication to attract more young students to be involved in exploring the theme of “The Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All,” thus enhancing their sense of responsibility in building up a better future world. President Zhou believed that the panel session for young students will become a highlight of Beijing Forum 2010.

President Kim appreciated the achievement that in such a short time of six years, Beijing Forum has developed into a world-class academic forum. The success of Beijing Forum originates from the unique perspective of the Eastern civilization and its pursuit of prosperity and harmony of human civilization. He said that the KFAS will spare no efforts in supporting the academic feast.

After key-note speeches, PKU President Zhou Qifeng and KFAS President Kim Jae-youl signed the agreement on Beijing Forum 2010, which will be held in Beijing from Nov. 5 to Nov. 7, 2010 with the theme “The Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All - Commitments and Responsibilities for a Better World.”
Beijing Forum 2010 will establish eight panel sessions and will be attended by more than 300 world-famous scholars on invitation from all over the world. In addition, this year’s event also features cooperation with internationally renowned academic institutions such as Yale University, University of Cambridge, the University of Chicago, the Australian National University, and the Tony Blair Faith Foundation.
Beijing Forum is organized by Peking University in order to promote the research of humanities and social sciences in the Asia-Pacific region, with a view to facilitating international academic exchanges and trans-cultural discussions that can lead to the social development and the increased prosperity of the world’s citizens and civilizations.
Among other themes for panel sessions of the seventh Beijing Forum are “Faith and Responsibilities: Spiritual Reflections of Global Issues,” “Addressing Global Environmental Challenges: Policies and Actions,” “Global Governance and the Role of China,” “Building the Harmonious World City,” “Health for All: Conscience and Commitment of Medicine,” “Global Imbalances and Their Solutions,” and “Education Reform and Research in the Era of Transition: Responsibility and Future.”
