PKU delegation visits National Center for Nanoscience and Technology

Peking University, April 17, 2011: Zhou Hui, Director of Office of Scientific Research, Peking University, and Shen Ruqun, Director of Office of Scientific Research at Peking University Health Science Center (PUHSC), visited the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology (NCNST).

 

They attended the conference together with Zha Lianfang, NCNST deputy director, and other researchers. PKU Assistant President and NCNST Deputy Director Zhu Xing presided over the conference.

 

Secretary Zha made a brief welcome speech for the delegates from PKU first. Then she introduced the establishment background, development history and operation mechanism of NCNST. She stressed that Peking University had offered much help from its establishment to the later development and that the two sides have established firm cooperation. She hoped that through the visit both sides could make further discussions about cooperation on research management and major scientific research programs during the twelfth five-year (plan) period. Besides, Wang Xiaoping, Deputy Director of Office of Scientific Management in NCNST, introduced the condition of technological management and standardization.

 

Director Zhou gave an introduction of scientific research at PKU. “Over the years, we have paid particular attention to research in basic science or in accordance with our nation’s demands.” Also, he expressed his hope that communication and cooperation between the NCNST Office of Scientific Manangement  and PKU, especially on nanotechnology, can be strengthened. Then Director Shen also expressed his wish to cooperate since there is a large demand on nanometer materials and devices at PUHSC .

 

After that, delegates of each side discussed much more on technological management. And during his summary speech, President Zhu said that the conference was  a good beginning of future cooperation. After the conference, delegates visited the Testing Laboratory for Nanostructures, Laboratory for Biological Effects of Nanomaterials and Nanosafety and the laboratory co-established with PKU.

 

Introduction to NCNST 

The National Center for Nanoscience and Technology (NCNST) of China is co-founded by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Ministry of Education. It is a subsidiary non-profit organization of CAS which enjoys full financial allocations with a status of independent non-profit legal entity. It will have 155 formal employees. The center was officially founded on December 31, 2003, with CAS, Peking University, and Tsinghua University as its initiators and co-founders.
