Professor Cai Hongbin from Guanghua elected as Fellow of Econometric Society

Peking University, Nov. 19, 2011: Recently, Professor Cai Hongbin from Peking University Guanghua School of Management was elected as Fellow of The Econometric Society, becoming one of the few Chinese economists to have joined the most elite economics professional society.


The Econometric Society, founded in 1930 as the most influential professional society in the economics field worldwide, has assembled the most outstanding economists in the world. It aims to promote exchanges among theoretical economics and empirical economics through strict scientific research methods and push forward the research together. Member of the society includes economists from every branch and domain, and the most of Nobel Prize winners. Its affiliate journal Econometrica is one of the top economics journals.


Becoming Fellow of The Econometric Society carries a great honor. Every Fellow must be nominated by the Nominee Committee and voted by the all the present fellows. The Fellows must be far-reaching influential economists with original achievements in theoretical economics or applied economics. At present, only few of mainland Chinese economists have received this honor.


Professor Cai Hongbin have original accomplishments in several key areas such as game Theory, information Economics, the industrial organization Theory, and political Economics and China's economy, which exerted profound influence in the economics field. Many of his papers were published on top Economics journals such as American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Theory, Rand Journal of Economics and top Finance journals such as Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies. Particularly, Professor Cai Hongbin, since full-timely joining the Guanghua School of Management in 2005, devoted to academic research and focused on the combination of his solid economic theory research foundation with rich and colorful Chinese practices. He leaded a young research team to carry out strict and standard research into Chinese economic issues which came out with outstanding results. He published several accomplishments in international top academic journal after returning to China. Being elected as Fellow not only owe to his distinguished contribution in game theory, industrial organization and other fields before returning, but also a high degree of recognition of his achievements in applying theories into Chinese practical issues.
