PKU joins hands with Duke on global health

Peking University, June 5, 2012: A national-wide continuing education program was launched at the Health Science Center of Peking University (PUHSC), with Duke University of the United States involved in actively.

 

 

Dating back to the National Graduate Summer School (funded by China’s Ministry of Education and the National Natural Science Foundation), the bilateral program trained the first batch of students from institutions across the country in 2009.

 

This year, 35 young scholars have been selected into the fourth “PKU-Duke Global Health Certificate Program” to receive the two-week bilingual teaching, which is interspersed by group discussions, study tours and special lectures. Renowned global-health characters from the two universities will take turns to give lessons on from the relevant policies to the ethical paradoxes. After the final examination on June 15, the certificates will also be jointly awarded.

 

The staff and students

 

At the opening ceremony on June 4, Professor Meng Qingyue, dean of the School of Public Health at PKU, delivered a welcome speech to the students and the staff. “We admire what the researchers at Duke have contributed to the development of global health,” he said in particular, “and their advanced experience is of great importance here.”

 

On behalf of PUHSC, PKU Executive Vice President and PUHSC Executive Vice President Ke Yang affirmed the achievements of the program, pointing out its merit for Chinese scholars to enhance a global outlook.
