Peking University, Dec. 7, 2012: Professor Pu Zuyin from School of Earth and Space Sciences (SESS) of Peking University (PKU) won this year’s International Award at the 2012 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting in San Francisco, U.S., for his outstanding achievements in space physics. The award ceremony took place on December 5 with a celebration dinner held the next day.
The International Award of AGU, set up in 2007, is intended to “recognize an individual scientist or a small team for making an outstanding contribution to furthering the earth and space sciences and using science for the benefit of society in less favored nations.” Academician Chen Yuntai, Honorary Dean of SESS, was another Chinese scholar to have ever received this honor (in 2010).
The International Award laureate Pu Zuyin, long engaged in the research of magnetosphere physics and space plasma physics, has accomplished many important academic achievements. During the years of 2006 - 2009, he exerted his international influence as the editor of Journal of Geophysical Research (Space Physics), the leading journal in the field of space physics. He was the recipient of Vikram Sarabhai Medal in 2010, awarded jointly by Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
This award brings Chinese scientists in space physics to the international spotlight yet again, demonstrating the strength and influence of the space physics researches in China.
