Peking University, Dec. 3, 2012: Cross-strait Youth Leadership Camp for college student associations' leaders was held in Taiwan from November 17 to 25. Invited by Taiwan Ten Outstanding Young Person’s Foundation, 22 youth leaders from the student unions or student associations of Peking University (PKU), Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University and Sichuan University participated in the Camp. Ye Jingyi, Vice Chairman of PKU Council, led the delegation.
On the afternoon of November 20, Wang Jinping, Chairman of the Taiwan Ten Outstanding Young Person's Foundation, held a banquet to welcome the delegation. He stressed the significance of the Camp in that “the great hopes of the cross-strait development lie in the youth”, and hoped that they could build friendship hand in hand and promote interaction and cooperation jointly."
As Ye Jingyi pointed out in her speech, the youth shoulder the responsibility for the revival of Chinese nation. She hoped the cross-strait youth to strengthen the cooperation and deepen the mutual understanding and friendship as to gain an edge in competitiveness in the future.
During their stay in Taiwan, the delegation visited National Chengchi University, Private Chinese Culture University, Feng Chia University and I-Shou University. They had in-depth discussions on hot issues with the students and faculty members in the host universities. The sharing of unique education visions and distinctive features of various campus activities in a harmonious atmosphere impressed the delegation.
The foundation also invited several elects of “Taiwan Ten Outstanding Person” to give keynote speeches on environment, media and public service, pertinent to the theme of the camp "Media and Society”, including Jian Youxin, Chairman of Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) and Tang Jian, Director of Da-Ai TV. In addition, the delegation visited a bunch of renowned news media, including Chinese Television System (CTS) and United Daily News Group, and had conversations with the on-the-spot journalists.
Taiwan Ten Outstanding Young Person's Foundation has been an important partner of PKU to keep in touch with all circles in Taiwan. Over the past decade, the two sides have had a series of effective cooperation in education and culture communication. This camp sets up a new platform for interaction between cross-strait youth leaders, and deepens mutual understanding and friendship. Meanwhile, these activities provide valuable experiences for PKU to better do the youth-related work and strive for becoming a world-class university.
Just as the motto of the foundation says, “the hope of mankind lies in the hands of youth and action.”

Taiwan Ten Outstanding Young Person's Foundation, was founded in 1993 in memory of the 30th anniversary of the selection of “Taiwan Ten Outstanding Young Person”. This foundation awards ten outstanding persons with great achievement, diligence and virtues each year, with various kinds of activities held to inspire the sense of self-worth and the spirit of social service inside the youth.
