Nov 08, 2021
Peking University, November 8, 2021: On 1 November, Executive Vice President Gong Qihuang attended the World
Laureates Association (WLA) University Presidents Forum.
Video Conference
Gong delivered a speech on “Meeting the New Challenges of Open Science
in the Digital Age”. He shared how Peking University has long been a
proponent of open science, the movement to make scientific research and
its dissemination accessible to all. For instance, papers published by
Peking University about research projects involving collaborations with
other institutions account for one-third of the university’s total
published research results.
Gong added that in the face of global challenges, universities should
accelerate the building of digital infrastructure and promote open
access to information and data. Universities should work to establish
open, transparent, equitable and inclusive rules and regulations
regarding open science that would respect the diversity of academic
fields and differences across countries. During the first thematic
session on “Open Science: From Concepts to Practice”, Gong explained the
challenges faced by research universities in promoting open science and
offered his recommendations.
