PKU leaders greet international faculty on Chinese New Year Eve

Peking University, February 9, 2022: On Chinese New Year's Eve, President Hao Ping, Executive Vice President Gong Qihuang, Vice President Chen Baojian, Vice President Wang Bo and Executive Assistant Dong Zhiyong of Peking University visited international faculty members at Zhongguanxinyuan Global Village with sincere greetings for the Chinese New Year and the time ahead.
The international faculty on campus gathered at the hall of Zhongguanxinyuan Global Village Building 4 for the Spring Festival. "Happy Chinese New Year, everyone!" said President Hao Ping, "I wish you and your family joy and happiness in the Year of the Tiger! May everything go well in your life at Peking University!” He sent his warm wishes to PKU international faculty. The university leadership expressed their cordial care about the research work, recreational life and holiday plans of our international faculty, reminding them of keeping healthy and safe during the holiday. They were also recommended to experience Chinese traditional culture in this festival time.
In writing Chinese couplets and character of happiness “福”, the international faculty were beaming with joy in an immersed experience of Chinese traditional culture. They discovered the beauty of Chinese couplets in ink fragrance as well as the best wishes they conveyed.
Prof. Roger Ames, from the Department of Philosophy, wrote “天地之大德曰生” (The great attribute of heaven and earth is the giving and maintaining of life).
Prof. Kimihiko Baba, from the School of Foreign Languages, wrote “春光满园增祥瑞” (A garden’s spring air gives the blessings).
Arthur Schipper, assistant professor at the Department of Philosophy, and his wife Ami wrote “春满人间” (Spring fills the Earth).
Elena Kozhevnikova, also from the School of Foreign Languages, wrote “五福临门” (Five blessings descend upon this home).
PKU international faculty members onsite expressed their gratitude to the University and sent their best wishes to its faculty, staff and students for the Chinese New Year. They also wished the Beijing Olympic Winter Games a complete success.

In order to enrich the campus life of international faculty and build up a communication platform, the Office of International Relations organizes regular International Faculty Club events. Recently, the Office organized the 2022 New Year’s Party, the filming of video clips “Together we cheer for the Winter Olympics in Beijing”, and a series of “New Year and Winter Olympics Wishes from PKU International Faculty” etc. Moreover, PKU international faculty members were invited to the Opening & Closing Ceremonies of the Beijing Winter Olympics, cheering for the big event and the athletes on spot.
