Peking University, March 9, 2022: On the afternoon of March 7, 2022, the annual council meeting between Peking University and Waseda University Confucius Institute was held at Lin Hu Xuan in Peking University.

Wang Bo, vice president of Peking University and Chinese chairman of the council, reviewed Waseda University’s support for the Confucius Institute in 2021. He acknowledged the Institute’s success in holding a series of academic seminars on the Sino-Japanese Humanities Forum, which laid a solid foundation for partnerships between PKU and Waseda.
Gemma Masahiko, vice president of Waseda University and Japanese chairman of the council, thanked Peking University for its consistent support for Waseda University Confucius Institute. He noted that the “Global Classroom” project and the “Asian Youth Exchange Program” were well received by students at Waseda University. He expected that the two schools would continue to cooperate in the future.
Niu Dayong, professor at the Department of History, Peking University and Chinese dean of the Institute, reported on the final accounts of Waseda University Confucius Institute in 2021. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the Institute still made remarkable achievements with a total of 9 online cooperative research exchange meetings, publication of 2 symposiums and 4 Chinese classical literature, and students’ participation in the PKU “Global Classroom” project. Moreover, the Institute organized the “Waseda University and modern China” Humanities Forum and assisted the Asian Youth Exchange Program.
Chiang Cheng-yin, director for East Asian Affairs, International Affairs Division, Waseda University, reported on the 2022 work plan and budget of the Waseda University Confucius Institute in 2022. He said that a vice president of Waseda University will accept the invitation to attend the opening ceremony of the Sino-Foreign Cultural Exchange Forum of the Peking University Confucius Institute.
During the discussion session, the participants reached consensus on the joint training of undergraduate students, information sharing between the school history museums, the “Asian Youth Exchange Program” and the exchange program of secondary schools affiliated to the two universities.
Yoshihiro Watanabe concluding the meeting
Yoshihiro Watanabe, vice president of Waseda University and Japanese dean of the Institute, made concluding remarks of the meeting. Wang Bo conveyed President Hao Ping’s greetings to President Aiji Tanaka of Waseda University and expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for attending the meeting.
