Register Now! Forum on addressing the climate & energy challenge to be held

Peking University, October 10, 2022: With a view to focusing on solutions to common challenges faced by mankind, Peking University-University of Chicago Joint Forum will be held from October to November 2022 on a hybrid format. The theme of this year's forum is "Addressing the Climate and Energy Challenge".



As an important component of Beijing Forum 2022, the Joint Forum builds on the robust academic foundation laid by the annual Beijing Forum and the US-China Forum organized by Peking University and the University of Chicago respectively.

The panel discussions will be centred on six themes: environmental regulations, the humanities, corporate engagement, human health, clean energy technology, and climate ecosystems. The forum will be attended by renowned academics, policy researchers, and industry experts.

The Joint Forum Opening Ceremony will be held on 13 October 07:30 (Beijing Time), 12 October 18:30 (North American Central Time Zone). It will also kickstart the first panel discussion on the path forward for climate diplomacy.

Is There a Path Forward on Climate Diplomacy?

Climate Change is a shared challenge faced by both the US and China. As the largest greenhouse guess emitters, the cooperation between both countries made the conclusion of the 2015 Paris Agreement possible. As we take on the challenges of the future, how the international society can jointly collaborate on climate action is a question on every country's mind.

About the Forums

Peking University and the University of Chicago have a longstanding partnership. In 2019, the Peking University Chicago Center was established, deepening the level of institutional cooperation. This year's forum not only marks another milestone in the partnership, but also brings both universities together in addressing the global climate and energy challenge.

Since its inception in 2004, the Beijing Forum organized by Peking University has strived to become a world-class academic forum bringing together renowned scholars, influential policymakers and thought leaders from more than 70 countries and regions. This joint forum with the University of Chicago also marks the inauguration of the Beijing Forum Global, a sister forum to the Beijing Forum developed in partnership with PKU's valued academic partners.

Since its inauguration in 2015, the US-China Forum organized by the University of Chicago has brought together renowned experts from numerous universities to discuss issues of great significance to China, the US, and the world. It aims to promote long-term collaborative research between the University of Chicago and universities in China.
